DISCOVERING BUDDHISM: AN FPMT INTRODUCTORY PROGRAM
The aim of the Discovering Buddhism Program, which is offered in the Jokhang, is to give participants a solid footing in the practice of Mahayana Buddhism. Participants will receive an experiential taste of the Buddha's teachings, some retreat experience, and skills they can use to make their lives most meaningful.
Summer Discovering Buddhism modules will be HOW TO MEDITATE and THE WISDOM OF EMPTINESS.
How to Meditate:
July 8th - 20th
with the retreat day on the 20th
Learn the definition and purpose of meditation, how to sit, how to set up a meditation session, different meditation techniques, and how to deal with obstacles to meditation.
Wisdom of Emptiness :
July 22 - August 21th
with the retreat on August 17th.
The realization of emptiness is crucial for the attainment of liberation and enlightenment. Learn to develop calm abiding and different methods of meditation on emptiness.

The Discovering Buddhism modules are offered free of charge by Maitripa Institute. However there are administrative costs to running this program; therefore yourdonations are needed and welcomed. All classes take place in the Jokhang at Maitripa: 1119 SE Market St. (at SE 11th, near Hawthorne) Portland, OR 97214.
