Friday, February 5

6:30-7:30pm: Open House
Tour Maitripa College and meet staff, faculty, and students over refreshments.
Location: Student Commons.

7:30-9:00pm: Lecture by Visiting Professor Dr. Anne Klein on “Open Heart, Clear Mind”
Maitripa College regularly hosts lectures by visiting professors. This month we are joined by celebrated Rice University Religious Studies Professor and prolific author Anne Klein. Location: Jokhang Meditation Hall. >About Dr. Klein


Saturday, February 6

10:00-12:00pm: Shiné Meditation Class.
Sit in on President Yangsi Rinpoche’s Shine meditation class – Learn how to calm your mind while getting a taste for program classes at Maitripa. Location: Jokhang Meditation Hall.

2:00-3:00pm: “Student Life at Maitripa” Tea & Talk Discussion Group
Join Director of Student Services, Sara Blumenthal, and alumni as we discuss student life and culture at Maitripa College over tea/coffee and cookies. Location: Main Classroom.

4:00-5:15pm: Faculty Lecture & Panel Discussion at “Philosophy Café”
Join Maitripa’s Dr. James Blumenthal and other local philosophers as they discuss Buddhism and social engagement in downtown Portland. Dr. Blumenthal will give a lecture entitled “Toward a Buddhist Theory of Justice.” Location: Powell’s City of Books, 1005 W Burnside Street, Portland, OR 97209. 7:00-9:00pm: “Explore Maitripa” Evening
This CORE EVENT OF THE WEEKEND will begin with a welcome from President & Founder Yangsi Rinpoche and will be followed by presentations on our new & existing programs. After a refreshment break, faculty and staff will facilitate small group discussions so that students may ask questions and learn further details on the program of their interest. Location: Jokhang Meditation Hall.


Sunday, February 7

9:00-10:00am: Tea & Pastries
Come enjoy a light breakfast with us before the traditional Sunday meditation. Location: Student Commons.

10:00-12:00pm: Maitripa Community Meditation
Maitripa senior students and qualified graduates lead our public meditation on Sunday mornings. Join us in community for this inspiring conclusion to a wonderful weekend of events. Location: Jokhang Meditation Hall.


All events are open and free of charge. Donations for the Friday night lecture are welcome.
